Rhodiola 200 mg, 30 tablets, YAMAMOTO
Rhodiola rosea is a medicinal plant belonging to the Crassulaceae family that is native to Siberia, but it is also widespread in Mongolia and grows wild in the mountains of Northern Europe—including Lapland and Scandinavia—as well as in Alaska in North America. Like many other herbal extracts, the use of rhodiola has a truly legendary history.
The root is used to enhance physical performance and immune system strength, and generally to improve overall physical and mental well-being. It is even said that the Vikings took it as a tonic after intense physical exertion. In Tibet, ancient local populations consumed it to better adapt to the high altitude and harsh climate, as they did in Siberia, where, in addition to using it to protect against low winter temperatures, there was a popular belief that anyone who drank its infusion daily would live for more than a century; Furthermore, the root of Rhodiola rosea was given as a gift to newlyweds to ensure the good health of their unborn children, as it was considered a powerful stimulant. In Traditional Chinese Medicine as well, the root was used to treat various ailments and for its invigorating effects. The first scientific studies on Rhodiola date back to the first half of the last century, when several scientists, mostly Russian, began observing the effects of this native plant, but it was not until the early 1960s that information on the benefits and properties of Rhodiola was made public to the Western world.
These days, when you’re feeling tired—whether you’re going through a particularly stressful or exhausting period, during seasonal changes, intensive training, times that require constant concentration, or in any situation where your body is feeling run down—taking rhodiola can help restore your balance.
Rhodiola roots have adaptogenic and anti-stress properties that generally enhance learning and memory; these benefits are well known and have been used for centuries in Siberian, Chinese, and Scandinavian folk medicine. These properties have been scientifically proven and are attributed to the presence of phenylpropanoid glycosides, particularly salidroside and rosavidin, whose chemical structure is similar to that of syringin (eleutheroside B), one of the active ingredients in eleutherococcus. Salidrosalide is the most pharmacologically active compound. This glycoside is found in the root of Rhodiola rosea, also known as rodioloside, and is referred to as rodosine. Taking it stimulates the production of serotonin, adrenaline, and dopamine, improving mood with an antidepressant effect, while also enhancing cognitive function by positively affecting metabolic functions (of the heart, liver, and muscles) without side effects. The organic acids and flavonoids contained in Rhodiola rosea, on the other hand, are responsible for its antioxidant properties.
Rhodiola increases plasma levels of beta-endorphins, which can prevent the hormonal fluctuations associated with stress. It has a cardioprotective effect in cases of tachycardia and palpitations caused by anxiety or nervousness, and helps increase exercise endurance and reduce recovery time after intense physical activity. In fact, in the sports field, Soviet scientists recommended its use for athletes to improve cardiovascular and respiratory function during endurance activities, to optimize mitochondrial energy flow by promoting higher levels of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and creatine phosphate in the mitochondria, thereby ensuring a general improvement in oxidative metabolism. It helps support the athlete’s immune system, reducing the risk of overtraining during intense training sessions or endurance competitions. Athletes appreciate its ability to reduce the onset of post-intense-training pain (DOMS) (delayed onset muscle soreness), thereby facilitating muscle recovery, where a reduction in inflammatory cytokines and markers of muscle damage such as myoglobin, creatine kinase, and lactate dehydrogenase is observed, thus confirming its much-cited "myoprotective" role.
The plant has weight-loss properties, due to its stimulation of certain lipases that accelerate the release of fat from fat stores (lipolysis) and convert it into brown fat, which can then be easily metabolized—that is, "burned"—to produce energy.
The primary benefit for which it is known and widely used today is that it is an excellent "anti-stress" adaptogen, as it helps the body recover from physical and mental exhaustion caused by particularly "stressful" periods in life, which can also lead to heightened nervousness. It acts primarily on the sympathetic nervous system, combating anxiety and depression by increasing (by up to 30%!) blood levels of serotonin—the neurotransmitter responsible for feelings of well-being—and counteracting the harmful effects of cortisol, the stress hormone, while also significantly reducing stress-induced hunger. The glycosides contained in the root are also capable of increasing dopamine levels, a substance that transmits a signal of satiety to the central nervous system.
Soviet studies have shown that, by acting as a stimulant on the female hormonal system, it is recommended for amenorrhea and significantly improves fertility. In men, it enhances sexual function and performance in 70% of those suffering from erectile dysfunction or premature ejaculation.
Rhodiola rosea has no specific contraindications, but at high doses it can cause insomnia and irritability. Avoid use during pregnancy and while breastfeeding. Do not give Rhodiola rosea to children.
Its use is not recommended if you suffer from heart conditions or high blood pressure, or if you are experiencing nervous exhaustion or severe anxiety. Do not use rhodiola under any circumstances if you are taking antidepressants, anxiolytics, or barbiturates, as it increases their side effects.
Even in today's fast-paced world, Rhodiola rosea extract remains a highly effective natural supplement with powerful adaptogenic properties that can help you stay mentally alert, energetic, and productive during periods of significant physical and mental stress. It helps alleviate physical and mental fatigue, improves focus and concentration, and boosts resistance to fatigue, all without interfering with normal biological functions.
