Choline and inositol are essential components of phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylinositol, which in turn are involved in the synthesis of lipoproteins—the carriers of fats and cholesterol in the blood. A deficiency in these compounds affects the presence of these "carriers"—LDL and VLDL—thereby promoting the accumulation of fat in the liver.

Choline (vitamin B7) is an essential micronutrient that plays a key role in the formation of phospholipids and acetylcholine, an important neurotransmitter. Choline helps maintain normal liver function thanks to its "lipotropic" properties, meaning it helps prevent the accumulation of fat in the liver.

The liver excretes fats through two lipoproteins, VLDL and LDL, which in turn are composed of proteins and phospholipids, the primary one being phosphatidylcholine. This highlights the importance of choline, the precursor to phosphatidylcholine, which facilitates the transport of fat from the liver to the muscles and adipose tissue. Choline contributes to maintaining healthy liver function, as it belongs to a group of substances known as “lipotrophic,” meaning they are capable of preventing lipid deposits in the liver.
