The BCAA Powder 8:1:1 by Yamamoto® Nutrition is a supplement made up of 100% branched-chain amino acids obtained through plant fermentation . These amino acids, also known as BCAA (Branched Chain Amino Acid), are three of the essential amino acids that our body is unable to synthesize sufficiently to meet its needs, and therefore must be taken in through food. BCAAs are therefore part of the EAA (Essential Amino Acid), which are used by our body for the production of proteins .

The formula is enriched with vitamin B1 , which supports energy metabolism, and vitamin B6 , which contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue, to the maintenance of normal protein and glycogen metabolism.

BCAA Powder 8:1:1 is characterized by the presence of a ratio of l-leucine, l-isoleucine and l-valine of 8:1:1, therefore with greater presence of leucine : this amino acid is in fact essential for protein synthesis . Below are the main characteristics of these 3 amino acids:

  • Leucine : Found naturally in milk, corn, chicken, and eggs. It plays an important role in muscle growth and is an alternative energy source during intense physical activity.

  • Isoleucine : Found primarily in corn, potatoes, chicken, eggs, peanuts, bresaola, and lamb. It is closely linked to glucose requirements (in fact, it is considered a glucogenic and ketogenic amino acid), prevents the catabolism of structural proteins, and promotes recovery after prolonged exercise.

  • Valine : Egg white powder, soy protein, spirulina algae, dairy products, and other dairy products are rich in it. It plays an important role, especially in tissue reconstruction.

BCAAs are among the most popular dietary supplements among athletes, bodybuilders, and fitness enthusiasts in general. These amino acids are essential for muscle protein synthesis and the muscle tissue repair damaged during exercise.

BCAAs make up approximately 35% of essential amino acids present in muscle proteins and are particularly important for the maintenance and growth of lean muscle mass . Additionally, BCAA supplements can help reduce muscle fatigue and improve performance during exercise.

One of the main benefits of taking BCAA supplements is their ability to increase muscle protein synthesis, particularly through leucine, which appears to be the most important amino acid for stimulating muscle protein synthesis by activating a metabolic pathway called mTOR.

Furthermore, BCAAs have a unique metabolism: they aren't metabolized in the liver, but pass directly into muscle tissue where they are metabolized by the enzyme BCAA aminotransferase. All three branched-chain amino acids can stimulate insulin production, but they aren't glucagonogenic, making them particularly attractive for the supplement market due to the benefits of insulin spikes after exercise.

What is a branched chain amino acid supplement for?

Branched chain amino acids have 3 main functions: they are used for protein synthesis where, together with the other 17 alpha amino acids, they are the building blocks of proteins, used for energy purposes And they act as signal molecules .

warnings

Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. Supplements should not be used as a substitute for a varied diet. A varied and balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle are important. Keep out of reach of children under three years of age.

How to use and take

Add 1.5 scoops (5 g) to 150 ml of water or other beverage and take once a day before or immediately after training or competition. On non-training days, the product can be taken at any time of day.

Our advice

We recommend taking the product pre- or post-workout, depending on individual goals. Pre-workout: energy function and protection from skeletal muscle degradation; in the intra and post they will counteract the muscle catabolism , supporting growth but preserving the tissues subjected to stress.

Frequently asked questions

Should they be taken before or after training?

Taking BCAAs is a good strategy for both pre- and post-workout: they are extremely effective in both situations. They counteract muscle catabolism following intense physical activity and simultaneously replenish muscle with plastic material. Therefore, our advice remains to split the intake between pre- and post-workout.

I take branched-chain amino acids: is it correct to also add protein intake?

Most high-biological-value proteins contain a full spectrum of essential amino acids, including all branched-chain amino acids. In situations such as low-calorie or high-protein diets, increased needs, or even sarcopenia, BCAA supplementation can be beneficial. Whether or not you consume protein and amino acids together is important. it depends on the quality (biological value) of protein and total daily protein intake. If you take BCAAs but don't meet your protein requirement, you can also take protein at the same time.

I've heard of other BCAA supplements with different ratios, why should I choose Yamamoto Nutrition's 8:1:1 BCAA Powder?

The 8:1:1 ratio of the three branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) in BCAA 8:1:1—leucine, isoleucine, and valine—has been specifically formulated to maximize protein synthesis and muscle repair after exercise. While some other BCAA supplements may have different ratios of these amino acids, the 8:1:1 ratio has been shown to be the most effective for reducing muscle breakdown.

So which one to choose between 2:1:1, 4:1:1 or 8:1:1?

The answer to this question isn't exactly straightforward. Many variables must be taken into account, including, in many cases, the reason for using the supplement. Below, we'll try to provide some tips to help you make your choice.

  • BCAA 2:1:1 – They primarily serve as energy support during long, intense workouts and for muscle recovery. They are therefore suitable for pre- and post-workout use.

  • BCAA 4:1:1 – Reducing fatigue, supporting increased energy demands, and aiding recovery: these are the main benefits of taking this type of BCAA. So, it's suitable for both intra- and post-workout use.

  • BCAA 8:1:1 – Do we need to fully recover after training? The high amount of leucine supports this process while still meeting the energy demands that arise after training.
