What is Legionarius?

Legionarius is a Palatinose™ isomaltulose food supplement and branched-chain amino acids in a 2:1:1 ratio from plant-based fermentation with added coconut water and citrate salts. The product is enriched with magnesium and potassium, which contribute to normal muscle function, and vitamins B6 and B12, which, together with magnesium, contribute to normal energy-yielding metabolism and the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.

Thanks to the meticulous collaboration with professional athletes, the continuous listening of their needs and the collaboration between the international MMA champion Alessio Sakara and Dr. Gabriele Trapani (Director of the Research and Development Department, Yamamoto® Nutrition) we have created Legionarius, a supplement that supports intense and prolonged training sessions typical of fighters and all combat disciplines, cross trainers, triathletes, marathon runners, cyclists and bodybuilding enthusiasts.

Professional athletes are "holistic" athletes, working intensely on both aerobic and anaerobic levels, combining reactivity with athleticism. They therefore need to maintain endurance for extended periods without energy or concentration drops, or digestive problems. Furthermore, they must be able to recover as quickly as possible.

Legionarius is a Special Edition developed based on the needs directly identified by the extensive experience of a champion of Alessio Sakara's caliber. Our research and development department therefore focused on the most significant critical issues that can arise during training or competition, to create a product designed "by athletes for athletes."

The elements that make up Legionarius

Legionarius is a blend of elements to be taken during training (through your own water bottle) that allows you to create a gradual wave of energy to support the muscles involved in the effort thanks to:

Palatinose™ Isomaltulose

Isomaltulose (Palatinose™) is a low-glycemic disaccharide sugar whose molecule is formed by combining two monosaccharide sugars, glucose and fructose. It is a natural sugar found in small amounts in honey and cane sugar, with a sweetening power 45-50% that of sucrose (white sugar). It has recently been increasingly used as an ingredient in sports drinks due to its interesting properties. Characterized by a very gradual process of absorption and release into the bloodstream, isomaltulose has a moderate glycemic curve over time, without the sudden spikes or drops that can occur with other carbohydrate sources (glucose or maltodextrins). It has therefore proven to be a slow-release energy source that can sustain the body during even very prolonged training sessions. Thanks to its structural characteristics, in addition to not excessively elevating blood sugar levels and insulin potency, it does not lead to the onset of gastrointestinal disorders such as fermentation phenomena, nausea, osmotic diarrhea, providing constant energy and hydration thanks to a low osmolarity.

Branched-chain amino acids

Branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) are known and appreciated by both power and endurance athletes. These are three of the essential amino acids:

• Isoleucine

Three substances our body cannot produce on its own and must obtain through diet. BCAAs are absorbed through the intestinal mucosa and, through the blood, pass directly into the tissues as free amino acids. Unlike other amino acids, they are metabolized directly in the muscles, without being broken down or rebuilt by the liver. BCAAs have long been used in sports because they represent a large portion of the essential amino acids present in human muscles. They are taken to counteract muscle degradation (catabolism) induced by training and are potentially beneficial in power and endurance sports, both as muscle support and to help prevent the onset of fatigue. During long sessions of intense physical activity, it is easy to become close to depleting muscle glycogen. When this happens, a state of energy "emergency" occurs, causing the body to use an alternative energy reserve, activating the enzyme involved in the oxidation of BCAAs in the muscle. It will therefore draw on the source of muscle protein, to the detriment of performance itself and muscle recovery.

Minerals, electrolytes and coconut water

In addition to blood sugar balance, which we've already discussed, another factor is crucial for athletes: hydration. Excessive fluid loss can be detrimental to performance and health. Impairing performance requires exceeding 2% of initial body mass in unreplaced fluid loss. When this threshold is exceeded, the main physiological changes observed are a series of disturbances that go beyond a decline in performance. These include increased psychophysical fatigue, increased temperature, increased heart rate (due to reduced circulating blood volume), glycogen depletion, altered metabolic functions, gastrointestinal disturbances, headaches, cognitive impairments, and even collapse. It's therefore clear that maintaining a good electrolyte balance before, during, and after a performance is crucial. LEGIONARIUS helps combat dehydration by providing valuable support elements such as:
